Convention Rules and Etiquette

In keeping with our commitment to a happy and safe environment for all, we have laid out the following rules for all participants. The best rule - as with anything - is simply "don't be a wool-headed son of a Trolloc".

In Case of Emergency

All staff will be trained in an emergency procedure. If a fire or other emergency starts, stay calm and follow the directions of your nearest staff member.
Currently, our First Aid officer is Eleanor (certificate available upon request.)

Harassment and Antisocial Behaviour

  • Legend and Myth Convention defines harassment as the act of deliberately making another feel uncomfortable. It can be physical, verbal, sexual, or another form. If you are found to be harassing another person at the convention, you either be given a verbal warning or escorted from the premises without a refund.
  • Do not participate in "slut-shaming". If you believe a participant is showing too much flesh, don't look at it. Staff members will deal with anything outright inappropriate.
  • No alcohol or restricted substance is to be consumed at the venue or nearby, save for at the Trivia event in the evening.
  • Please keep language relatively clean. (If you must swear, we ask that you use only epithets from the world of The Wheel of Time.)
  • Smoking of any kind is not allowed on the grounds of the venue. You may proceed down the street a little way,. but please dispose of your extinguished butt in one of the bins provided. Failure to bin your butt will be treated in the same way as littering.
  • Please leave areas how you find them - i.e. do not leave rubbish behind or vandalise in any way.
  • Our venues are quite often situated in a suburban area; please help us keep the noise down!
  • Legend and Myth Convention is a breastfeeding-positive area. we believe every mother has the right to feed their child in a safe location. If you feel uncomfortable with seeing a child being fed, please look the other way. Similarly we will not tolerate "shaming" for bottle-feeding.

Cosplay Warnings

Please keep in mind the following when designing your cosplay:
  • Local laws have some restrictions on the carrying of weapons, replica or otherwise, in a public place. Please research these - if in doubt, pop in to your local police station with photos. Arrests of cosplayers have been made in the greater Sydney area in particular.
  • No flammable substances. No matter how cool you think that fake channeling effect is, it's distinctly less cool when you realise you cannot channel the flows required to extinguish the building.
  • No functional bows or similar weapons. In a future year, we may have a facility that can take these, but for now - sorry.
  • No laser pointers, as responsible as you may be.
  • Be mindful of typical sensitivities when it comes to skin exposure. Whilst Legend and Myth Convention disagrees strongly with "slut-shaming", some level of decency must also be respected.
  • If you are likely to shed (fur, thread, fluff, scales etc) - DON'T WEAR IT.
  • If it is sharp, DON'T BRING IT.
  • If in doubt... DON'T BRING/WEAR IT.

Minors

Minors (those under 18) are required to be supervised by their ticket-holding guardian at all times, including for toilet breaks. We have a small staff crew and are unable to "mind" or guarantee child safety if they are outside your supervision. If an unattached child is found, we will contact police.
Also, out of respect for any young members of our audience, we have laid out certain notes in our Harassment and Antisocial Behaviour section above to ensure limited vulgarity around said children.
Similarly, please be aware that the Trivia, Cards against the Pattern, and the celebratory dinner after the Convention will be a "mature" event - i.e. we will be attending a licenced venue and will probably be very tired. Whilst any language or transparent euphemisms used at this session will no doubt be nothing new to older teens, we would advise keeping fresher ears away.

Disability Policy

Legend and Myth Convention staff will endeavour to meet the needs of all with disabilities or similar. If you ever need help, please talk to one of our staff members. If you know in advance that you may require special assistance on the day (accessibility, quiet space etc), don't hesitate to use our Contact Us form and we will prepare as best as possible.
