About the Convention
Mission StatementOur mission is to provide Australia with a comprehensive convention dedicated to Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. We aim to provide a convention that keeps all comfortable, but is not afraid to look deeper. Eventually, we aim to operate multiple events per year.
History of Legend and Myth Convention (formerly the Land of Madmen Convention)The concept of an Australian JordanCon has been floated many times in the past, but has never actually launched. It took a thread in one of the Facebook groups asking the locations of all its 9,000+ members for this particular push to occur. Staff member Amanda noticed the sheer volume of Australian respondents to the thread and set up a new Facebook group - our current one - to gather them in. This was in roughly February of 2015.
In April of that year, Linda traveled to JordanCon with an additional mission - to ask permission of Team Jordan to set up the convention. It was granted, and the brainstorming began. In June planning picked up speed, a core admin crew formed, and finally in July a venue was found. September 26, 2015 formed the inaugural Land of Madmen Con, to be held at Fitzroy Hall, Burwood, Sydney. Sydney was picked due to its relatively central location; for Queensland residents, the second choice - Melbourne - had the potential to be too far away, with Brisbane proving the same for southern residents. With the success of the 2015 convention, planning for 2016 was soon underway. After a slight pause, Gordon Uniting Church was selected as a venue that was close to amenities whilst catering to the hosting needs of the Convention. With Guest of Honour Ironlord Forge, this was a hit, and the group made the radical decision to move the Con to Melbourne- at least for 2018. With big plans for 2018 and beyond, including an international possibility in 2019 - here we come! |
